A Season of Joy: Reflecting on Our Boonoonoonus Christmas Dinner Celebration

Updated: Feb 7

This holiday season, Jamaicans on Vancouver Island Canadian Services Society (JOVICSS) hosted a memorable Christmas dinner that brought our community together in celebration, gratitude, and love. Held on November 23, 2024 at Royal Colwood Gulf club, the event was a festive occasion filled with good food, great company, and the unmistakable warmth of the holiday spirit.

A Night to Remember

Our Christmas dinner was more than just a meal—it was a chance to reconnect, share laughter, and reflect on the blessings of the past year. The venue sparkled with holiday decorations, festive music filled the air, and the smiles of attendees radiated the true meaning of Christmas: togetherness.

A Feast Worth Celebrating

No Jamaican gathering is complete without the rich flavors of our traditional dishes, and this event was no exception. Guests enjoyed a delicious menu featuring:

  • Jerk chicken

  • Curried goat

  • Rice and peas

  • Sorrel

  • Traditional Christmas treats like black cake and sweet potato pudding.

The aromas and tastes transported everyone to the heart of Jamaica, even in the chill of a Canadian winter.

Moments of Gratitude

As part of the evening’s program, we took a moment to express our gratitude to everyone who has supported JOVICSS throughout the year. From volunteers and donors to event attendees and community members, your contributions have helped us grow and make a meaningful impact.

Special thanks were given to our hardworking team, whose dedication made this event possible. We also recognized our sponsors and local businesses for their unwavering support.

A Community United

The evening was filled with heartfelt conversations, laughter, and shared memories. Games, raffles, and holiday surprises added to the festive atmosphere, making it an event to cherish. For many, it was a chance to feel the warmth of home and the strength of community, even far from Jamaica’s shores.

Looking Ahead

As we wrap up 2024, we’re filled with gratitude for the incredible year we’ve shared with our JOVICSS family. From cultural celebrations to meaningful initiatives, this Christmas dinner was a fitting way to close the year.

We can’t wait to see what 2025 brings and look forward to continuing to celebrate our heritage, support our community, and create unforgettable memories together.
